It's a mouthful isn't it? Im not even sure how to pronounce it, but it's French!
Anyway, I digress.... this is a review of the Yves Saint Laurent Volume Effet Faux Cils, which basically means the mascara is supposed to give your lashes the look of longer, false lashes. This mascara was sent to me by Influenster to try for free! Does it hold up?? Does it work?? You know I'll be honest.

First of all, a little info about the product: This mascara retails on YSL's website for $32. Whoa. If you ask me, that's a lot... regardless of how well the product performs. I mean, I guess if you have $32 to drop on mascara, then you go girl! Mine was free, so that was great, and I will say, as far as performance, I believe if you want to pay that kind of money, it doesnt dissappoint. HOWEVER, its only worth it if you can afford it, and in my opinion, $32 is just too much for a mascara, no matter what it does.
This is the description of the mascara on YSL's website:
"NEW improved formula does not dry out. The best gets even better, the original false lash effect mascara, now with an all new Lash Care formula. Achieve absolute dramatic lashes in a single stroke for eyes that instantly pop. Its secret is the Triple-Intensity Formula: intense volume, intense color and now intense care. The nylon fiber brush coats each lash in deep color and maximum volume from root to tip, while B5 Pro-Vitamin strengthens and protects lashes. Available in 6 signature YSL shades to compliment eye color or to create a customized look."
The 6 colors that the mascara comes in are High Density Black, Extreme Blue, Burgundy, Rich Brown, Fascinating Violet, and Deep Night. The one that they sent me is High Density Black.
Alright, on to the review! First of all, the mascara is packaged BEAUTIFULLY, as all YSL products are. The tube is a gorgeous gold color, perfect to show off on your vanity.

The brush is nylon, and very dense. It really is very good for evenly coating the mascara on your lashes. They hit a home run with this one. As far as the formula goes, when you pull the brush out, you can tell the formula is very luxurious.... almost creamy. It's not drying, and not liquidy, like lots of other mascaras. I really have nothing bad to say about the formula. I feel that it is actually conditioning to a point. The only bad thing about it is that because of the creaminess of the mascara, it does take a bit longer to dry than others, but who cares when its this good?!?!

OKAY Y'ALL, THIS IS THE BEST PART! I am tackling the claim this this mascara creates a false lash effect. IT IS TRUE. This mascara makes my lashes look so long. I had been using Tarte's Lights, Camera, Lashes before Influenster sent me this one, and I have to say, after using this one for a few weeks I like YSL's more. Every day that I choose to wear this mascara over others, I get SO MANY COMPLIMENTS on how long and pretty my eyelashes look. This is my favorite mascara to wear with no eyeliner, because it really makes my eyes pop!

I mean, do you see this?? This is what it looks like with no primer on the lashes. This is just curling my lashes, and putting on the mascara. Whoa.
I do plan on one day repurchasing this. I like it that much. I'm going to wait though, for when I can get it on sale with a coupon or when Sephora has their VIB sales. $32 is just too much to pay for this poor college student.
If you have a special event like a wedding or prom, and wanna drop some cash on high quality makeup, I suggest this!
With love and luxurious lashes,
Whitney
